  1. Get a Medical Marijuana Recommendation

You can use your personal physician if they have been approved by the Department of Health to recommend medical marijuana. If not, you can book an appointment with a trusted doctor below.

    Book an appointment today
  2. Submit an Application to the Department of Health

A complete application consists of a patient application, headshot, photo ID, and 2 proofs of DC residency. If you would like the low income discount, you must also provide proof of low income status.

    Submit your application
  3. Pay the DOH Application Fee

The application fee is $100 for regular income patients and $25 for qualified low income patients. The fee must be paid with a money order, cashiers check, or certified check. The DOH does not accept credit/debit cards, cash, or personal checks.

    Pay the DOH Fee

Step 1: Booking a Doctor's Appointment

We have 2 options to choose from. Both options cost around 50% less than any other provider of medical marijuana recommendations in DC.

Step 2: Submitting Your Application

Applications can be submitted online or with a paper application. We highly recommend submitting your application online, as the DOH will process your application about 1 week faster.

  • Online Submission (Recommended)

    Get your documents ready

    • The electronic recommendation number given after your doctor's appointment in Step 1
    • A headshot (photo of yourself from the shoulders up) on a clear background, without glasses or anything coving your hair. Example headshot
    • A photo ID issued by the DC, federal, or other state government. If you have a valid DC drivers license with your current address, it can also be used as a proof of residency.
    • 2 proofs of DC residency. Choose any 2 proofs of residency from this list. Note: Your 2 proofs cannot be of the same type (such as a power bill and an cable bill).
    • Proof of low income status (optional) See accepted proofs of low income here

The copies of these documents submitted should be clear and easy to read. You can take a picture of them with your phone (ok), use a mobile app such as CamScanner (better), or use a scanner/copy machine (best).

    Submit your application

Once you have all of your documents ready, click the appropriate button below based on who gave you a medical marijuana recommendation to submit your application. If you went to the Brightwood/Georgia Ave location, choose Physician. If you went to the H Street/Union Station location, choose Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner.

    Physician (MD, DO)
    Nurse Practitioner (APRN/NP)
    Dentist
    Physician Assistant
    Naturopathic Physician

After submitting your application, you will then receive a confirmation email from the DOH. Save and/or print this email.

Please note: you are not done after submitting your application. You must still pay your application fee

  • Great place to experience. The staff are always very friendly and obviously love their jobs. The selection is mind boggling. Every time I go there, I ask about a million questions, and always get patient and thoughtful responses to each one of them. Looking forward very much to seeing how they grow given time.

  • Everyone is super nice at MWC. Not just regular customer service nice, but just plain cool. Everyone is super knowledgeable, and they remember your face which always feels great. I am happy I chose this dispensary. They were super helpful as I went through the application process, and I called with lots of annoying questions.
